Neighborhood Dogs and Cats Beware: I’m on the bike again!

I’m so excited to announce I got out on my bike today and rode for the first time since my accident. I’ve done a lot of praying up until this point, and once again my prayers were answered.

I left the house about 11:45am and proceeded down an old warm-up route, which is about eleven miles. I used to hit this route before heading south of my parents into the big hills of the Cedar Hill area. I’ve done a lot of training there, and look forward to returning to all of my old routes some day. The weather was clear and the temperature was a smoldering 107F, but I didn’t give a care in the world. I had forgotten how bumpy this main stretch of road was, until it was too far to turn around. Some of the bigger bumps were a little hard on my foot, but it wasn’t enough to deter me from finishing.

It was like I’d never been on a bike before, at the average speed of 12mph. It will be a good while before I get back up to 23-26 average mph pace I’m used to traveling at. I’m not going to rush anything, for I don’t want to be told I can’t ride by my doctors.

I feel like I’ve accomplished so much and have come so far mentally and physically. I’m so thankful for my family, friends, and most importantly my faith in God.

    “Return of the Ramon”!

great to hear you are back on track.
i do know how the healing process works.
i injured my shoulder and right arm last year. i had severe nerve pinching pain. i do know how it feels to think you are crippled for life. i still have lots of pain when i sit behind the computer-actually what injured my arm was long hours behind the computer and that means over 15-20 hours a day for over a month and a half.
the fact that i can actually sit for 4-5 hours a day and come up with a half done comp is very relieving at this point in my life.
i am sure you will be up and running in no time ramon. don’t give up!
